Number seven is the one I have heard so many times and most recently from a couple of friends of mine. They had paid off their mortgage years ago, never had a credit card and never used any of the store finance deals. When they decided to get a credit card as a back up when travelling abroad they complained about all the follow-up telephone calls for their application and the additional information they had to supply. No recent credit history so no indication as to whether they are high or low risk! However, I would suggest that those trying to secure loans for mortgaging reasons or just for attaining extra cash then I would perform a credit check and hence get a credit report. It was suggested that i checked my credit report as you mention and hey, guess what it had 2 or 3 blatant errors.
